Uncle Nath: explained

The Who

I'm sure it's no surprise to anyone that I have a cheesy moe, tanned skin and am doing a business degree at Uni.

The typical Northern Beaches kid; spoilt growing up, never had to pay for anything, arrogant, only wears branded clothing, has a Fitness First membership, and refuses to let anyone touch my hair. I can see you judging me already. I'm working on it...

I'll leave it up to you to decide how much of that is true. So here's the rundown:

  • I'm studying a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation at the University of Technology, Sydney.
  • I work at my old high school, primarily tutoring and helping students with learning disabilities graduate with an HSC.
  • I am a self-proclaimed sports enthusiast, loving basically anything that involves fitness or team sports.
  • I spend lots of money on food. But, I hate Cheese...
  • My favourite year of high school was year 12 by a mile. I had so much fun and managed to get the ATAR I needed for my Uni course.
  • (WARNING: Unpopular Opinion) I am obsessed with money.
    • Not in a materialistic way; but because I believe that having money opens more doors for you to truly explore yourself and find your 'Why' (aka purpose). I believe that having my money work for me, allows me to focus on living and loving my life.

The Why

I have two main goals at this point in my life...

My first is to help you navigate the absolute mess associated with growing up. Things like finishing school, starting uni, going travelling, and everything in between. The plan is to share my experience around all of these things so that you can take notes, learn from my mistakes, and hopefully use a combination of those things to make the most of your younger years.

The second is quite simple. In typical Gen-Z fashion, I want to break the mould. I want to show as many people as possible just how fun learning can be. I don't mean learning in the old-fashion sense (1 + 1 + 2), but rather personal growth. Learning about yourself in order to improve for the future.

You'll watch me write a lot about personal finance. That's because I love it. I started early and I now realise just how beneficial it can be to start investing and taking care of your money before your late 20s.

I fell in love with taking care of my own money at the ripe old age of 16 and am now beginning to see the benefits of such luck in being able to do what I want to do when I want to do it.

With this blog by your side, here is my (rough) plan for you:

Wake up early and decide what your day looks like. Plan that two-week trip up north. Drop out of uni. Fall in love. Go back to uni. Get hired. Get fired. Get re-hired. Learn a new hobby. Farout, sleep all day if you want. You'll be getting paid regardless!

The What

I want you all to think of me as an uncle. You know, the guy you see every now and then who always seems to have some slight wisdom that goes beyond your own teenage omniscience. A distraction from the stresses of Instagram, a new-age productive form of procrastination.

This blog will be written with a clear structure in mind, starting with sorting out your money and ending with travel using that new money. But heck, if you want to go in reverse order, that's cool. If you stay for one post that's also cool (but I bet you won't). Right-to-left, bottom-to-top, I don't care, I'll know I've done my job if you leave here wanting to catch up with Uncle Nathan again next week.
